Lost key fob

That's not my experence.
When I bought my used Subaru Forester, a 2021 touring, it had only one fob. I bought a second one but it wasn't cheap, 2 or 3 hundred dollars, as I recall. All they needed was the VIN which they had on file but I did have to take the car in to their service department. They even made the door key.
Latter on, they found the missing fob and mailed it to me so now I have three fobs.
