Interior lights turn on after stop

After shutting off the car, the interior lights automatically turn on. I do not like this behavior and want to turn it off. The manual says that I either need to use the navigation unit or go to the dealer. My car does not have a navigation unit and I don't want to spend $xxx on this problem.

I have a 2011 Impreza 2.5l Premium.

My 2001 Forester has a switch on the overhead light that has a function of turning off the light. Have you tried that?
