Check Engine Light

Hello, my 1995 Subaru Legacy has the check engine light on. This was before I noticed that the oil was overfilled by nearly a quart. I removed the excess oil. The check engine light remains on. I attempted to self diagnose by connecting the diagnostic connectors then starting the engine. All I found was the two green connectors (no black ones). After connecting and starting the vehicle all I got was a constant blinking of c.e.l. There were no short or long flashes. All the same length and constant. There is a very small scent of burning oil near the drivers side door. It might have been due to the overfill. Otherwise, the vehicle drives and handles good. I would appreciate any help and/or advice. Thanks
