acceleration stutter and deceleation problem

R

Robert H

I have a 95 Subaru GL wagon. I have two problems that seem related.
1. When slightly decelerating, for instance when going down a slight
hill the car will rapidly (2 or 3 times a sec) pulse or lurch as if
some one is lightly tapping the accelerator. If I take my foot off
the pedal or accelerate a little, the pulsing will stop. This seems
to be limited to speeds above 25MPH. The problem has existed for
about 4 months and is becoming more noticeable.

2. This problem has been around a month and might be further
development of the first problem. When accelerating at lower, around
town, speeds the car will stutter, about once a second, sometimes
intermittently, until a steady speed is reached. This problem may
exist at higher speeds but is not noticeable because the momentum
masks the effect.

1 seems like a vacume issue, like a vacume switch is not working, to
me.

2 seems like an accelerator pump but, since its fuel injection, thats
not it.

any ideas?
Thanks
Robert

The 95 L I had, began stuttering on acceleration. The problem was with
the learning feature of the ECU, one of the parameters was out of whack.
By resetting the ECU (disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes) made
the car run as good as new.

Well, we left the battery disconnected overnight and still have the problems.
Any more ideas?
Also, now the check engine light is on. Im going to look into diagnostic codes...

EGR/EGT valve is sticking, test it with a hand held vacuum pump.
These are available at most parts stores for under $25.00

The "Idle Air Control Malfunction" usually has to do with the TPS
(throttle position sensor). This can be adjusted - but BEFORE I would
even attempt to adjust it...

CLEAN the throttle body, or fuel injection intake.
Need help, I am only an e-mail away....

Thanks Edward, The plugs and wires are a few months old. I ran a
couple bottles of cleaner through as well, but not TECHRON.

Well, I took it to the local service dept and its the Transfer clutch
Assembly
parts and labor is $1200! I dont mess with automatic tranies, and Im
not starting now. looks like Ill have to pay the man!
Thanks for all the help guys!
