Bought a new 2026 Forester and went on a 1396 mile freeway road trip. Based on multiple 100mile checks against mile markers odometer is accurate. Using quanity added to fill the MPG was 30 to 30.1MPG. Same as showing on display. Problem... When indicating 1/2 tank and distance to empty 240 miles it takes 12 to 12.2 gallons to fill the tank. Base numbers there is a 40% error. You in reality have 4 gal remaining and 120 miles to empty.
Took car to Subaru where purchased for issue. They said there are no codes so all is good. Service rep told me that the car has a saddle bag type of tank and the fuel gauge will never read correct. Blamed the design engineers for the problem and stated nothing they can do. And again, stated no codes no problem. Has anyone else had this issue? This display will run you out of gas in the middle of the desert.
