1507 code fix

A 1998 forester was throwing this code.
Reseating the electrical connector at the sensor stopped this. Dielectric
grease was applied to the pins of he connector to prevent this from
happening again.
Then it starting throwing a code for the knock sensor. Reseating the
electrical connector at the sensor fixed this too and dielectric grease was
also applied.
No codes since.

Cool, but knock sensor typically goes away and comes back over and over
again. At that point you really have to replace the thing.

Yup!

I went thru the somewhat typical knock sensor fail. I'd get the
occasional CEL for a couple of days and then it would go away.
.... check the code/clear... and be good for 2-3 months and it would burp
again.

Then it started more often.. like every week, then every couple of days.

Finally I bit the bullet 6 months ago and replaced the damned thing, all
good now!

I hate replacing sensors for "one time burps" especially at $80 USD, but
I wish I'd done so earlier. Totally wild-assed guess, but I probably
used up $200 extra in fuel over the ~year of this crap.

Go to a wrecker! I paid $12 for a knock sensor!

There are many parts I'd buy from a wrecking yard/"recycler", but this
isn't one of them. It's a sealed "lump" that can't really be measured or
tested except by installing it and crossing yer fingers.

But second thoughts... it's not going to be a big deal if it did fail,
it's not going to strand you if it does.
