What are the major technical differences between those two (besides the
new lamps and 2.5 engine

Is that new 2.5 liter engine the same the Forester has got?

Check the forum I suggested in the other post and dig around at
www.cars101.com . But here are a few I recall(I have an '06WRXwgn);
Alloy lower link, aluminum hatch and hood, shorter throw shifter, side
airbags, AVCS (variable valve timing - probably responsible for
increasing torque and moving the peak down to 3600rpm from 4k), air pump
inplace of front cat. conv., 17inch rims.
