took my 2016 Crosstrek to the local garage, as there was a smell of oil and small drips on the floor. They took a look and told me it looks like a leak from the cylinder head gasket. They recommended going to the local Subaru dealer. Which I did expecting a quote for $2,000 to $3000 came back with close to $10,000. I can get a rebuilt engine for a 1/3rd of that and have it fitted. Anyone else heard of this? This is my 5 Subaru.

Not that, but my 2018 Legacy (47,000 miles) kept having a low oil light come on for years. I was told it was “covid driving patterns” or “just an alert for an oil change needed” (1500+ miles before oil change was due). Finally did an oil consumption test that came back “fine”. Only took car to Subaru for service. Now that my warranty is over, they have discovered a problem with the seal on the cam carrier. $3500 fix. Advocacy says they’ll pay $2500 and dealership will offer a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. I’m disgusted. I thought I was buying a car that would last. Seriously considering selling my car and going back to Honda. My last Honda lasted 18+ years with minimal cost beyond standard maintenance and replacements.

our suba 2014 forester kept throwing a low oil lite tho we kept it topped up and checked oil per the handbook . we kept a funnel and a qt of oil w us at all times, the engine just kept burning oil. at 60K miles over 5 years we just got sick of it . we have an 07 chevy now w 60,000 miles on it and no oil warning lites every 2 weeks.
