AC Problems with 2005 Outback

V

My girlfriend recently purchased a 2005 Outback Sport. Since the day she
bought it, she complains of excess noise when the AC is on. When the
compressor turns on and off, usually about once every couple of minutes,
the sound of freon ( I guess it it technically R-134a) going through the
expansion valve is quite noticable. The dealer replaced the expansion
value, but the problem persists. I have test driven a couple of other
2005 Outback Sports, but they don't appear to be as loud. The dealer
refuses to fix the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this? This wooshing noise drives her crazy,
and makes my life miserable as a result.

I have an '05 Impreza RS sport wagon and I have the same noises. It's
loud enough to hear when driving at 30 MPH, but not very noticeable at
55+ MPH.

Because the cooling works fine, I'm not going to deal with it.The noise
isn't so bad, but it does recycle constantly. I have heard others, and
they sound the same to me. If your friend's sounds really loud, then I
would continue to pursue it.

My MY97 Impreza (I know its old) does the same thing. It's done it since
the day I got it. I would really stay on top of it. After 2 summers of
the hiss the AC finally went. There was a cracked seal near the
evaporator. I've gotten the system repaired and it's been going strong
for 3 years. The hiss still persists, but have yet to lose the AC again.
