WRX ODB questions

Any idea where the ODB connector is in a 2002 wrx? What type is it A or B?
Can any general purpose ODB II reader be used?
I'm interested in PC-based reader because of the software flexibility. Any
recommendations on hardware and software (trying to keep it under $100)?

I JUST purchased a reader and tried it on my wife's OBW. The connector
faces mostl;y down and is 'next' to the the coin tray near the driver's
door.

The protocol is OBDII ISO 9642 or w'ever. The ISO one.

I'm using the handheld Innova Equus 3100. $88 from Amazon.

James, as Carl says, it is OBD : On-Board Diagnostics.

You can find a basic reader/scanner for $50 on www.changeE85.com.

I got one from AutoTap that has a few more bells and whistles: www.autotap.com,
for about $130.

(The professionals will spend thousands of dollars for a scanner that
contrains lots more information.)

Both of the cheaper ones use your laptop as a display.

Hi,
I use an interface box for USB port with my laptop.
Lot more can be done with this set up than a simple
hand held reader. You can buy a box and use shareware.
Try eBay for what you need.
