I am thinking of trading my 02 WRX for the new Legacy GT wagon, and was
wondering if there is anyone who has already gone that route and if so, are
they happy they made the right decision and why.
The bad points on the WRX are the paint which has chipped substantially
worse than any other make of car I have owned, including the Outback before
it. Also, the body fit and feel, again the OB was vastly superior. This was
the first turbo I have owned, and I have got used to the turbo lag.
The good points are the handling, (especially since I changed from the stock
tires), the performance (I have the stick 5speed), and the gas milage
(17-18)
which is pretty good considering the performance.
The design which is boring and does not draw attention (mine is the wagon).
I test drove the Legacy GT wagon with Sportshift and was impressed with the
performance, ride, handling and quietness. I did not care for the full
automatic mode as it seemed to change up and down illogically. The manual
mode worked fine, but I'm thinking why spend the extra money on an automatic
if I'm going to use the manual selection mode most of the time. The dealer
did not have a similar car with the 5sp, but instead I tried an Outback with
5speed and the shift felt long and rubbery - nowhere near as good as my
present WRX which in itself is not the best of it's kind anyway (notchy, a
little imprecise, and hard to put into 1st sometimes).
It would seem that Legacy wagons are hard to find. The dealers have plenty
of Outbacks and WRX's. I would guess that because of the demand supply
factor on these models it would be a little hard to cut a good deal. This
was also true of the WRX when it first came out.
