I have a 2016 outback with 95,000 miles… What is the recommended mileage/interval for timing belt replacement?

I also own a 2016 Outback. These engines do not have a timing belt but a timing chain which does not require replacing at a set interval. Most earlier car engine designs used a chain instead of a belt.

Generally speaking engines with timing belts are typically non interference engines while those with timing chains are of the interference type.
Getting it wrong with a chain typically means a destroyed engine while those with belts just won't run because the timing is off.
If you have a timing chain, be extra, double, triple sure it's right before trying to start the engine.

my 87Z interference engine has a belt.

Then you can breathe a little easier if you're doing it yourself but it's best to double check. What I said is just a rule of thumb that generally true. There always those curve balls out there
