Stop/Start seems inconsistent

Hi All, I just got a new 2021 Crosstrek. I don't mind the stop/start so much (yet), but I don't know why the s/s kicks in sometimes but not other times. This morning I hit four traffic lights. Two of them the s/s engaged, but two of them it did not engage despite the same wait times. Why doesn't it engage all the time?

On he outback, probably same system, If you dont push quite hard the motor does NOT stop. Maybe on the other two you just eased the brake down, try it.

Start/Stop is controlled by numerous sensors. Possible reasons for "erratic" function include (but are not limited to) the front wheels are slightly turned, insufficient pressure on the brake pedal (as noted above) climate control settings if the a/c is on and the set cabin temperature has not been reached, coolant temperature too low or high among other reasons. Response to these conditions is by design, and does not necessarily indicate a problem. There are various videos on You Tube addressing the start/stop system. Search for "Subaru Start Stop" to find them.
