I noticed on the axle that there is an abs tooth sensor and i was
wondering if there is a notch to time to or if it is just installed??
2001 Outback wagon.

Don't know but highly doubt it. Can't think of any reason it would b
designed to mount only one way and if it was, then it will mount only on
way

All the sensor delivers is a pulse stream to the ABS computer, which
controls the ABS pump based on the difference (or worse case absence) of
streams of similar frequency from each wheel. So ...
on straight-ahead mode, the frequency is the same. Cornering keeps the F-R
frequencies close to the same, while differing the L-R frequencies. Only
when there is a marked difference eg when a wheel spins or locks does the
system adjust.
