Rear lens removal (95 Legacy wagon)

I'm trying to get the right rear lens off of my 95 Legacy Wagon. It has
become cracked and I want to get it out and onto a bench of some sort so I
can attempt to seal the crack.

When accessing it through the "replace the bulbs" hatch I found two bolts
with nuts on them that sure looked like they are what holds the lens onto
the body. However, upon removing the two nuts it still felt like it was
on there pretty tight - I didn't want to pull too hard and risk completely
destroying the assembly.

Did I miss something? Is there a 3rd (4th?) bolt buried somewhere that I
need to find? Or is it just the sticky weather-sealing compound that was
still holding on, and all I had to do was give it a firm pull?

Was just those two bolts on my 89 GL wagon if I remember correctly, and just
had to give a firm pull. I'm sure it isn't much different on your model.
Dummy me backed it into something and so to the wrecking yard I went where I
found a nice, clean lens I hadn't broke yet! (-;

I'll give it another try with a bit more courage. Heck, it's broken
already, right?

Hi. I have a 93 Legacy Estate (wagon? to you) and I replaced the rear
lens. After reading the manual, (get a cheap CD off' eBay), all you
need to do is to remove the two nuts from the inside then lever off the
whole assembly, after disconnecting the electrics of course! Use a
piece of thin plastic between the lever and car body so's not to
scratch your nice paint job. It takes a bit of effort since there is a
butyl seal behind the assembly for waterproofing I guess. I removed as
much of the clean butyl as I could from the broken lens assembly after
I'd removed it, then applied it to my 'new' part.
I had thought to replace only the lens cover but pretty nigh impossible
without breaking it. I'd like to know what Subaru use as a sealant
between the two plastic parts.
