2006 Subaru Baja Sport
I'd had a minor tinny rattle sound for years. I figured it was some sort of heat shield thing but could not locate it. Several weeks ago, I went through an automatic car wash and the cover on the gas cap door almost fell off. The two plastic retainers had broken. So, I took it completely off and stuck it in the glove box. A week or so later, I noticed that the tinny sound seemed to have gotten worse but did not associate it with the gas cap door cover. When I finally got around to putting the gas cap door back on, I wasn't happy with any of the plastic retainer buttons I tried so I ended up using a couple of short 1/4" cap screws (with nuts) to attach it. Tightened those snugly and put a dap of JB Weld on the bolt and nut. Very secure and the tinny noise stopped completely. Who knew?
