headlight replacement 99 outback

L

I bought two replacement bulbs from a website that said they would fit
my 99 outback. They don't, or at least not easily.
They seem to be missing the plastic casing and rubber grommet to plug
into the cord, to the battery.

Should I try to remove the bulb itself from the plastic casing or was I
just sent the wrong lights?

Thanks
Dan

I'm a little confused. I also have a '99
Outback and I changed my bulbs about a
year ago. I just unsnapped the plug from
the back of the bulb, give the bulb a
1/4 turn or so and pulled it out.

The bulb did not come with any cable or
casing.

Be careful not to get any oil or grease
on the bulb when you change it or you'll
be doing the drill again in a couple of
weeks. If you've touched the bulb, clean
it with alcohol and handle it with a paper
towel while you're installing it.

What's the part number? It should be on the base of the bulb
somewhere.
I'm having a hard time figuring out the part number from the Sylvania
online catalog - they don't have the Outback specifically for 1999, but
they do say the Lagacy uses a 9007. I think it could be either 9007 or
9003. Perhaps you can indicate what the old bulb looks like, and what
the one shipped to you looks like:

The 9007 has a straight plastic base with the prongs recessed. The
connector plugs inside. The 9003 has a straight metal base and should
attach to a similar connector. It has wider prongs that are exposed.

Ya, looks like I need the 9007 with the plastic base and recessed
prongs that run horizontally. The 9003 is all metal and the prongs
don't fit the cable. This is what they sent me and it doesn't fit my 99
outback.

Looks like I'll have to return them and make sure to get the right ones
this time.

Thanks
