Car Getting Horny....

My son mentioned going out the door this am, that his car horn was
beeping while he was driving last night. It didn't seem to do it when
he was stopped, just while driving! Any thoughts on what might cause
this?

Could be a loose wire in the steering column. I am not familiar with
the horn wiring in the subies, but I know in a honda I used to own the
flow of juice was battery positive, fuse, horn, horn button on
steering wheel, ground. So if there were a short in that wire between
the horn and the switch, it would activate the horn. I'd suggest
finding a wiring diagram of the system. It wouldn't necessarily be in
the steering column. I theorize that it is bouncing around and
intermittently contacting while driving, but when stopped the lack of
vibration prevents contact. Just a theory. I'm not even sure how the
horns are wired--if the juice goes to the horn or the switch first. If
it goes to the switch first, my theory falls apart.

Another theory is that it is a mechanical relay going bad with a
defective return spring.

Just thoughts,
Bill
