Subaru fan here. We just traded in our 2018 Outback and bought a new Legacy. After having completed an 800 mile round trip (all on interstate highways), I found the ACC/LC wanders back and forth like a snake going down the road. I am wondering if Subaru is aware of this anomaly and perhaps has a software update. What to do?

The system is designed to follow lines on the road. if the lines are wavy it will do the same. Turn lane centering off and drive the car.

It is trying to keep you in the lane?? do you stay on the lane?
Yes. I have found a number of other Subaru owners experiencing the same issue. I took the car in to the dealer with this complaint and they were able to duplicate it but said they could not fix it. I was told to take this issue up with Subaru customer support. Ostensibly Subaru will address this issue when enough customers file a complaint.

No wavy lines. I expect the car to drive as advertised. When it says "Lane Centering" it should keep the car in the middle of the lane, not wander all over the place.

mines kind of goes back and fourth, but I think it’s just correcting to much, so goes over to far, then need to correct itself in the other direction. The two systems probably uses the same amount of tug on the wheels to keep in you in the lane. More tug would be a good for an assistant to keep you in the lane as u are steering the car, but be poor for full control of the centering in the lanes. IMO it worked much better in the Camry I test drove. The carmy would not correct till I was allrdy edging the rumple strips on the edges of the road here.

Two other things to consider:
1) If the road has developed a "crown" this will cause the car to wander off to the side of the road.
2) Have improper air pressure in your tires will cause the car to drift also.
IMHO this auto correct system is being overly and incorrectly advertised as a safe way to travel. I can't speak for all manufactures but the system in our Subarus does not have the capability to keep the car in the middle of the road consistently.
