2000 Forester GT power steering issues

Hi,

I just recently bought a 2000 Forester GT, and think it is a fabulous
car. Unfortunately I am having a slight problem with the power
steering.

When pulling in to a tight carspace, or trying a tight turn, the power
steering appears to cut out, the steering wheel gets quite heavy and
is very difficult to steer.

I mentioned this to my local dealer, and he said that it was a
"blow-off" valve, which was saving my power steering from being
damaged when put under stress. Seemed like a plausable explanation,
but I never had this problem on my 98 Forester.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I would first check the fluid level and the belt. My 2000 Forester doesn't
do this although steering effort does increase somewhat depending on the
stickyness of the tires and ground surface. eddie

Just curious and no offence, but why would you go from a 98 to a 2000?
