2000 Forester knocking noise

Hi I have recently aquired a 2000 Subaru Forester with around 240000 kilometers and when it cold starts it has a knocking noise from the engine when the engine warms up the noise quiets down and when at higher rpm it is quiet car has been sitting for a couple of years any recommendations or suggestions on things I can do would be much appreciated if anyone needs anymore info please ask I need help!
