2.2l Swap into Forester

I've got a junk 96 Impreza 2.2l auto that has a strong drivetrain, and an 02 Forester 2.5l auto that has a crap one. Is this swap viable? I have experience taking out engines and swapping transmissions, etc. What I do not have is a godlike knowledge of the ins and outs of car electronics. If I took the drivetrain, ecu and entire wiring setup from the Impreza and carefully put it into my Forester, is that going to work without major problems? I figure switching all of the main wiring will eliminate any issues but I'm really not sure. Any advice?

Also I'm unsure if the Foresters' rear diff would work properly with the Impreza drivetrain and wiring, but I can always swap in that diff from the Impreza.
