I recorded this strange clicking sounds coming from the engine after rode the 2024 Subaru Forester Sport home on a cold (17 degrees) night. The sound was recorded on my iPhone right after parking the car in the garage after about a 10 mile ride home. The car was parked outside for abou 4 hours before driving home. The iPhone was positioned in front of the front grill to capture the audio. Any clues to what this is or if it should be a concern?

That sounds like it's just the metal cooling down especially exhaust componets after high operating temperatures. Heat expands metal, while cold constricts or shrinks it.

iPhone...first problem. lol

Seriously, it is just things expanding/contracting with the temp changes. All cars do it, some more than others, some get quieter with age, unlike people.

Thanks for the responses. Makes sense. I just don't think I've heard that from prior owned cars.

Oh I've heard it since the industry moved to using thinner gauge, lighter weight metals in order to reduce overall weight, improve fuel economy, and met CAFE standards. That was quite some time ago.
