I moved a USB music stick from my (now-sold) 2019 Legacy to a 2024 Forester. The stick is not recognized by the Forester's player. I was able to use a spare (small capacity) stick in the forester. The 2024 car's docs are not helpful. Has anybody run into this? thanks

I've seen where some people had to format their USB Stick for Fat32 in order for it to work with the Subaru system.

The 64GB flash drive I keep in my 2020 Forester is formatted using NTFS and the music normally loads right up. I do occasionally get an onscreen message that the media isn’t recognized (or something to that effect), but then it quickly disappears and the drive continues working as usual.

tried a new stick. the radio sees it (after a delay), then forgets it a minute later. fwp, but still annoying,

Large capacity sticks are simply not as reliable as the smaller ones. Not sure how this works but I've been told that above 16GB, all the sticks have the same number of locations for bits, but they have a way of storing more bits per location. The more bits per location, the less reliable the storage is.

So ask yourself just how much storage you need and if you don't need more than 16GB, then only use the smaller sticks.

I just tried my new 64 gig Kingston stick, with a sample of mp3's - seems OK.
I wish I could stay in "Folders" without needing to scroll to find it each time ..
.. it's how all my music will be stored after all .. Any suggestions ?

well, you can't detault to "folders".
it is infuriating. and if your finger accidentally touches the screen while trying to choose a folder by turning the select wheel (which goes in the wrong direction for a right hand), it defaults back to "songs".
if you have a bluetooth phone wth a music player, your car will always decide to play what is on the phone rather than the USB stick when you get in the damn car.
it is also infuriating that the car does not necessarily play tracks in a folder in alphanumeric order, because it seems to care more about the time sequence in which they were *loaded on the USB stick* from your computer, which is not necessarily track order when you copy a folder to the stick.
and sometimes it will *still* choose its own sequence even if you tediously load the tracks one at a time in order. this seems to be a characteristic of the head end that a lot of (Japanese) car makers embed in their radios.
and i want a cable operated fresh air vent at foot level, like my 1950 Pontiac, but i don;t think Subaru will do that either.
