Transmission uses oil

My 1986 Subaru is using transmission oil, but does'nt seem to leak out onto
the ground. The engine oil level is high and I think the transmission oil is
entering into the engine. The coolant level is good and clear. There was
white smoke comming out of the tail pipe when I put new coolant in the
transmission. After driving around, the smoke went away. It only smokes when
applying power on hills. What can be the cause od this?

Can you restate your question? I'm confused as to whether the radiator
is losing coolant or not. Usually, white smoke is coolant, black smoke
is gasoline and blue smoke is oil.

Replace the vacuum modulator on the transmission. It has ruptured an
intake manifold vacuum is now pulling the ATF from the transmission

Carl, the collant is ok antifreeze clear and level good. I put new
transmission oil in the transmission because it was empty, or a least below
the stick. While doing this with engine hot and running white exhaust came
out the tail pipe. I then checked the engine oil and it was a inch or two
above the fill mark. It also looked brownish black. The oil was recently
changed so it should have been clean and at the right level. After the
transmission oil was brought above the add oil level and the car driven for a
few days, the level is low again. But there is no oil on the ground where the
car is paeked. Can the Transmission oil get into the Engine?

Thanks, Keith

Thats an easy one.....
The Automatic transmission "Modulator" valve has a hole in its diaphram.
It's literally sucking tranny fluid into the intake manifold.
Change the modulator valve....

Thanks, I'll figure out what it looks like and where it is and replace.
Thanks again,
Keith

I'm assuming automatic tranny?
Check for presence of a vacuum modulator valve. If there is one, pull
the hose from it. It should be DRY. Any oil means a bad modulator
diaphragm which WILL cause fluid burning
