Transmission reprogramming?

Recently replaced the transmission valve body in my 2010 subaru legacy 2.5i (roughly 175,000 miles) after replacing the valve body and refilling the CVT fluid the park, neutral, and reverse gears work fine but when the car is put in drive it goes backwards instead of forward. Was something installed wrong or does a reprogramming need to be done?

This is probably a really bad explanation so I apologize in advance.

I didn't get the terms for the pieces, but there's a little cylinder with a notch in one end that's apart of the valve body and that piece is supposed to hook on to another piece that is shaped almost like a fishing hook and when the car shifts gears it controls where the valve body directs fluid to which engages the different gears.

I didn't have that cylinder hooked on which was what was causing the car to only go backwards.
