Have NOT figured out a SAFE way to change heat settings, or maybe the radio or other settings while driving. As far as I can tell there is no way to SAFFELY do this changes… Using the dumb touch screen is not SAFE while driving. Is there no other way????

Agreed 100% Went into a skid at 60 messing with the settings. Yup, my fault. You can change the heat settings with the pushbuttons to either side of the touchscreen and the radio on the steering wheel. But, I've found most functions are best learned in a parking lot!

I'm not sure what year Outback you have, but on a 2024 Premium, the Starlink system can set many features via voice command, not just audio. Climate control, cell phone including some apps, navigation if so equipped, etc. The system is a bit finicky when issuing commands in that you must use the correct phrase when issuing the command. Most newer models should have similar capabilities. The Starlink owners' manual lists all the commands. If you need a copy of the manual, it is available on the Subaru website under "Vehicle Resources" on the "Owners" drop-down. You input your VIN number or your year, model and trim and it will post links to all the manuals for your car.

Well… Interesting about so called star link but I understand that it is some thing I have to pay for.… So being able to do things safely it's not something that comes with the car but requires an extra fee?? And of course I have the manual... It would take all year to read it!

Starlink refers to two things, the infotainment system itself (free except for the Sirius XM radio) and the extra cost features for SOS and roadside assistance buttons on the overhead console (not relevant here). Yes, the manual is quite in depth, but I was referring specifically to the chapter on voice commands so you could see what commands are required to perform the tasks you are interested in. (Only two or three pages of reading describing the commands themselves.) You access the voice command feature via the button on the left spoke of the steering wheel that looks sort of like a face with soundwaves coming out of it. On my 2024 it is in the bottom row of buttons on the wheel.
