Ha. Just driven my first Legacy GT Twin Turbo. Completely standard and
with a slush box, but blimey, that's a nice drive.

Of course, now for the nasty part, finding out how much the
insewerance is trying to squeeze me for...

I just saw one the other day. Nice. I would have re-thought the
purchase of my STi if I had seen one of these first. It's only 50HP
short of the STi and looks like it has a lot more creature comforts.

So the Legacy GT in the UK is a Twin Turbo again like the B4?
Here in the states, it's a single turbo DOHC 2.5l 250 hp. Same engine
in the Forester and Baja XT.

Well, it is actually the Japan-only GT I've driven. Subaru
discontinued the turbo'd Legacy here in '93-something when they
introduced the rounded shape, but it has been available in Japan in
various guises. This one appeared to be the 'cooking' model, the B4 is
AFAIK the later guise of the same car, but with even more power.

2.0l sequential twin turbo in this case, supposedly kicking out 150kw
(205hp). The manual is a bit more powerful, but even the auto is
rather impressive. The world goes into reverse gear rather nicely
until fear for your license makes you lift the foot off the loud
pedal.

I certainly found it comfortable and must say that I prefer the new
interior to the earlier cars'. Of course part of the appeal is that to
the uninitiated it just looks like your grandad's 1.8l Legacy as the
only giveaway is scoop for the intercooler and that's easy to
overlook.

What I especially liked about this car was that it was completely
standard - original exhaust, original nice alloys, no stickers, no
"look at me, I'm important" tint job on the windows. Just a
silver/grey car that fades into the background.

That said, I'd expect the STi to have sharper handling - compared to
an Impreza, the Legacy estate is a bit of a bus, but even that's not
too noticeable. Plus you get the groceries back from Tesco's in record
time. Or via the local police station...

AUSTRALIA

Here in Oz, the Legacy (we call it the "Liberty" ) GT is a single turbo,
2.0L QuadCam

I wonder why US gets 2.5L single turbo, and UK gets another Twin Turbo???

Our Forester XT is also a single turbo... newest model is now 2.5L....
but the older model Forester GT was a single turbo 2.0L... de-tuned
version of WRX motor, I believe.

Out of interest, what size motor does the UK GT get... 2.0 TT or 2.5 TT ???

Spinifex,
us whining poms didn't get any Legacy/Liberty turbos at all for the
rounded 'classic' Legacy. The first boxy one (up to '93) was available
as a turbo, but the next generation was only available with N/A
engines. No idea about the latest models as they are somewhat out of my
price range...

The car I drove yesterday was a '94 Japanese Market Legacy GT estate
with the 2.0l twin turbo engine that had been recently imported into
the UK from Japan.

Yep... same as in Oz.

My first Subie was a 91 model Liberty (first model) RS Turbo 2.0L
Australia also didnt get the next model in turbo... i wish we did...
much nicer looking car. We didnt see a turbo Subie until the B4 twin
turbo 2.0L a few years ago... and now, the 2.0L single turbo Liberty GT.

And the only 2.5Turbo we have is the XT Forrester.

I'd love to try a Turbo H6 Liberty or Outback :)
