Mini review, $$, and gas mileage on 2026 Hybrid purchase

I purchased a Crosstrek Hybrid, limited trim, on May 16th. I feel this dealership gave me a great deal: the sticker was $39,101, they took $2,523 off the sticker for a purchase price of $36,578, amazingly I got $3,500 on a trade-in for a 2017 VW Golf with 193,00 miles and lots of issues, and the finance rate was a decent 3.9%. I put $7,000 down, so after taxes and fees I’m financing $29,147. I believe this car will hold value, so I feel I’ll be ahead of the game if I decide to trade-in a couple years from now.

I just hit 3,000 miles on the car. I drive in “S” mode 80% of the time. I’m only in “I” mode for the first couple miles/few minutes after a cold engine start until everything feels warmed up, and when driving highway miles. The car is noticeably more sprightly when in “S” mode, which makes for a good city, urban commuter. With that being said, I’m averaging 36.6 mpg for these 3,000 and have not had a tank reach less than 630 miles.

Having driven the gas version, I feel the difference between the two is very noticeable. I think the Crosstrek is a great car overall and I would never criticize the gas version, but if you’re contemplating a purchase and sitting on the fence about the hybrid I feel that the smoothness, acceleration, quietness, and gas mileage of the hybrid is markedly better and justifies the extra couple grand in price over a gas model

The sole reason I did not want the hybrid was the fact that it did not have a spare tire. My last car did not have a spare tire, and I always worried about hitting that one pothole that sneaks up on you in the middle of nowhere!

That is a potential problem. I figure the kit they provide will be just enough to get it to an NTB or some similar business without too much damage so the tire can be hopefully salvaged
