Intermittent starting issue

My 2013 legacy 2.5i is breaking my brain. It will start most of the time but when it doesn't it will behave as though the starter is giving out. After replacing the starter, old one tested good, nothing changed and I noticed after several attempts the engine would emit a rich fuel smell. Cleaning the MAF sensor didn't solve it and neither did new plugs. Cleaned and checked PCV and EGR valves as well to no avail. Did a throttle body wipe out without removal and went through the idle reset procedure. The only code I'm getting is a P0300 and only after getting it up to 3500 rpm. No vacuum lines are sucking starter fluid. When it's running, the only symptoms are some hesitation at initial acceleration and the misfire if I gun the accelerator. Any thoughts?
