HELP! WRX Security System!

Folks..
hope someone can help here.

I have a 2001 WRX with the factory security system.
I have been overseas for a few months and on my return the battery is
flat.

I have heard a lot of horror stories.. what can I do.. is it simply a
matter of charging the battery?

there is NO electrical activity right now... the security pad is
dead.
