I have a 05 Forester XS, 117K miles. In August I had the head gaskets replaced by my mechanic when they pointed out an oil leak and declared that as the cause.
I checked the oil yesterday and the dip stick was pretty much dry. I added a quart of oil which brought me back to full. It has been 2 months since the head gasket work and I’ve driven roughly 2000 miles.
Took the the car to a different mechanic today. They looked at it and confirmed it has been leaking oil. They said from a seal behind/near the timing belt.
I’m heading to the original mechanic who did the head gasket tomorrow to have them look at it.
What do we think? Shouldn’t original this mechanic have noticed this second leak when they were doing the gasket work?
I want to know what I should expect from the mechanic who did the head gasket work.
