Helped a buddy out by buying a car off him with a blown head gasket. 2004 Forrester XT, 200k miles. Now - into the shit. Also - thanks for having me.
Second time I've done a 2.5 head job, but first turbo motor and holy bejesus the shit that's buried in this thing. I'd like to avoid breaking into this engine bay for a few years and will be taking skiing frequently. Aiming for peak reliability (for its age) - willing to put an additional $1000 into parts.
Aside from a bad head, I also pulled the following codes
- P0546 Exhaust Gas Temp Circuit High Bank 1 sensor 1 (thrown twice)
- P0011 Intake Camshaft Position Timing Over Advanced bank 1
- P0021 Same as above, bank 2
Parts on hand
- Head gasket and head rebuild kit
- timing kit w/ water pump
- head bolts
What would you add with a $1000 budget (note, suspension, brakes etc. in good shape. Focus is on engine)?
