Definition of a SUV

There's a heck of a lot to recommend about the
Tribeca section of Manhattan. It may have gays, but it's not the most
gay-dense section. And so what if it is? <<

It isn't wise to name a car after a part of a cesspool of a city that
is filled with deviants. Most of America has Christian values and
finds that behavior an abomination. The museums are really the only
worthwhile thing in NYC. A car name should be neutral or express a
positive connotation.

It's really too bad when your preconceived biases get in the way of
rational discussion.

Oh, please: the families who live in Tribeca are deviants? Even the
ones with male fathers and female mothers married to each other? Your
interpretation completely ignores the reality that most of America
(with the Christian values you spout off about) ends up divorced, not
exactly a "Christian" value if these folks walked down the aisle and
promised to be together until death.

Subaru didn't name it after the enclave, and I don't know what you're
talking about re: the last decent vehicle. The WRX' and STis are superb
vehicles that only improve as the years wear on.

Thanks for your learned opinion on the future of Subaru, though: I'm sure
you're well-qualified to give it.

How do you know it wasn't named after the Tribeca section of Manhattan?
Where else would the name come from? Tribeca stands for "triangle below
Canal [street]".

Tom

Reminds me of the story when Nissan launched the Cedric in Australia over
thirty years ago.

Motoring Journalist: "Do you realise Cedric is seen as a name for
homosexuals in Australia"?

Nissan Executive: " Are there a lot of homosexuals in Australia?"

MJ: "Yes"

NE: "That's good! Then we sell lots of cars!"

Great advice. Please follow it: the homosexuals will appreciate your
doing so.

....and so will everyone else, if he exhibits
"knee-jerk" argumentivity in person, as he does
in the newsgroup ;-)

Another example
of awful model names like the nissan "Morono" Please dont buy Subaru's
reasoning for the name. I've lost all respect for them their designers
and engineers with the crap they call the 2005 outback and now this
tribeca garbage.

The Tribeca will get a look from me, but I'm not sure I could stand
having a vehicle with that difficult name.

This vehicle name really gets to me:

Grand Vitara

I immediately think of Spam or the "grand result: of viagara.

I think they are shooting more for the Chrysler Pacifica. SUV meets station

Oh my, not that gas eating monster I hope.
Surely the Tribeca has a more worthly target.

Unfortunately he's correct in many cases.

That why I see so many women driving them? And I really do around
here. They are conceived as a safer vehicle for the occupant. They
are also conceived to be what one needs when it snows. if I wanted to
pick the truley macho assholes it wouldbe Volvo drivers.

The idea that men who use anything powerfull are compensating for
sexual inadequacy is just so much psychobabble that has droped into
the mass intellect. It is not true in most cases. On the other hand
by that reckoning I guess I must be really macho as I spend all day
driving around in a Hyundai Accent. ;-)

Most of the women driving the huge suv's here in NJ are short. Vehicles
can make inadequate people feel better by saying "look at me". The
vehicles are meeting a psychological need.

Then I suppose you'd like to drive a Gay-Hater. That'd fit in with what
you believe to be American values.

Oh, New York Hater might work, too.

For what it's worth, I grew up in New York City, and I still love my
home town.

I thought Christians believe in loving thine enemy as thyself, but what
do I know?

Not the derogatory one you keep pushing.

Do they have a trailer hitch on the back?

If they do it is much more likely the user has a boat or trailer and
needs a tow vehicle. Often the woman gets the more reliable vehicle
and/or the one that hauls the kids better. Around here quite a few
non towing folks traded their mini vans for full size SUV's because of
he perceived safety and 4 wheel features. The same mentality sells
singles/couples not child hauling the smaller SUV junk that won't tow
for example the honda CR-V.

Yes, and driving an SUV now is almost a guarantee that the driver will
get into an accident of some sort, viz. the New York Times article
from last year (was it?), because of their arrogance and careless
evaluation of the risks of the road.

I never see the fat women in the SUV's towing anything around here. It
appears more like it's the only thing that they would really fit in.

A station wagon.

Thank you - you made my point. A Detroit station wagon is an SUV
these days. For that matter the Tribeca and the new Chrysler wagon
seem to be looking at the same market as far as the looks cool folks.

Oh, and by the way, where does one buy a full size wagon with 4 wheel
or all wheel drive? You may not need that in NJ unless you drive the
sand roads but you do find it very usefull anywhere there is
significant snowfall or unpaved roads.

It's fun to bash the SUV folks. I admit I do it too for some of them.
However, the reality is that the vehicles also have a reasonable
number of folks who buy them because they have a need part of the
time. The bashers often don't bother to process that, given an
unlimitied budget and parking situation a lot of folks soloing a Ford
Explorer to work would swith to a smaller car by choice for that trip
but they can't have two vehicles and they need the SUV for part of
their life.
