My 2020 Crosstrek was in the dealership for an oil change change yesterday. It has about 30,900 miles. The technician strongly advised replacing the brakes. Shocked by that news, I responded that I'd think it over. Probably I should have headed right to the sales manager to discuss it. Other than predictable EOM tire wear, I haven't had any other problems -- and i really like my Crosstrek overall. Appreciate all input.

Do you plan on using the dealer for service full time? If you do be ready for that nonsense every time you go there. Find a reputable independent shop if you can. I guarantee you will get an 'upsell' pitch every time you bring your car in.

Was it the technician or the 'service advisor' who tried to sell you the brakes? Most times you never see or talk to the tech, it's always that commission based sales person posing as an advisor.

If you headed to the sales manager the best you would get is a shrug of the shoulders as once you purchase the car you are just a memory to them. They have nothing to do with service for the most part.
