Problem:
The shifter switch is not telling the car it's in park so the car won't release the key from the ignition.
I found a quick, easy fix that requires few tools.
All the dash and console parts snap in place so removal is easy. I found a video on youtube on how to remove the panels to access the shifter insides and switch.
Once you get into the shifter, I bent the little metal switch tab (circled below in the photo) slightly upward so it would engage sooner with the shifter rod that is actuated by the shifter trigger. That fixed the problem. No new parts required! Hope this will help someone else.
