2016 Outback Loose Muffler Heat Shield

The heatshield above the left side muffler (3.6R, dual exhaust) is completely loose and just rattling on top of the muffler. The mounting screws completely corroded through the heatshield. It would be an easy fix if not for the muffler being in the way. Is it possible to lower the muffler down enough without disconnecting it from the exhaust pipe to be able to work on the heatshield? Or is the heatshield even needed? Thanks.

they all do this, put a piece of wire though corroded hole and tie up the shield. did mine 3 years ago and doing fine.

Tie up to what? All the holes are corroded through and the shield is just lying on top of the muffler. Are there places I can't see to run some wire to?

Bracket the screw goes into..on mine anyway

I just hose clamped all of mine 20 years ago and they're all fine since.
