I'm really hoping that someone may be able to help me diagnose a sound coming from my 2016 Outback. My driveway is on an incline and whenever I back out I hear this loud metallic click/clunk coming from the front end of the vehicle. Sometimes it happens when I pull out onto the street, sometimes it happens after I pull out onto the street and turn the wheel, sometimes it happens when I pull out onto the street and change from reverse to drive. Yesterday it happened when I reversed out of a parking spot and put it into drive. I took it to the dealership and they told me it was bad CV Axles so I replaced them. While replacing the CV axles I noticed I had a torn boot on a tie rod end so I replaced both tie rod ends and I went ahead and replaced both sway bar links for good measure. After all that work I was still hearing the noise. I then took it back to the dealership for an alignment and had them check my work and all the other components of the front end as well as take it on a test drive. They did not see any issues and thought that it just probably needed an alignment and that would solve the issue. To no ones surprise, it didn't solve the issue. Can someone please help me to narrow this down or give me some ideas on what I should check next?

Thank You!

100% sure it is front? Also worth knowing that a high % of axles are bad right out of the box these days. Even the Subaru ones are refurb units. The aftermarket ones can be pretty grim. I've had to do that job three times to get one that was quiet when under load.

A lot of things can make nose in that scenario. Lower or upper shock/strut mounts?

Also...sounds like you need a new dealer...

No not 100% sure on the location but I'm pretty sure its the front. Is there a way to check the cv axles myself so I dont have to take it back to the dealership? I was thinking it is possible its a strut but once again the dealership said they are fine. The dealership is Subaru of Olathe and I've already paid them $200 to diagnose..... ugh! To me it sounds like my old U joint in my old cherokee that went bad. That sort of sound.

NEVER let a shop use your wallet as their primary diagnosis tool.

Motor mount or tranny mount allowing everything to move around. There are a lot of option with limited info.
