I've bought a Legacy GT Limited a week ago and I thought the squeal was just a simple belt. After buying the car, i've realized that it's my clutch throw out bearing. It's squeals and stops when I press in my clutch, difficult to shift into gears, and very hard to push in clutch. I would do this myself but it's a daily and I'm only 16. I was just quoted around $1800 for all the work. Has anyone else had a similar problem to mine?

It's not too hard to do it on your own maybe a weekend if stuff goes wrong. I'm only 20 and I did it in a day. just put the car on four jack stands at the pinch points. A good trick to remember where everything goes get some blue scotch tape and label everything with numbers. So male end is numer 1 same with the female end take lots of pictures if you caibe bothered with that as all the plugs are different and only goes in one spot. You can get to the top tranny bolts very easy buy just taking off the intercooler and bang they are right there. Don't let your inexperience discourage you. You have to start somewhere and as far as car mechanics go this is relatively easy auto zone ells a kit that includes everything like the flywheel pressure plate clutch bearing and even the bolts if you have it apart might as well do everything if you can't afford it just do the bearing and take note of the condition of everything thing else these cars usually live pretty harsh lives. Auto zone kit-DMF91151 it only mentions the flywheel but this is the exact kit I used and it works great as long as you have the five speed.
