2005 Impreza RS revs stay high longer

'05 2.5RS, manual, 97K km, no engine codes, new Cat Converter, bought from
dealer 6 weeks ago.

When changing gears, esspecially 1-2, when I back right off the accelerator
the engine revs don't drop as fast as I'm used to with other vehicles. This
happens if I change at about 2500rpm or so. It's really quite irritating,
though less of an issue if I change at 3500-4000 rpm.

Is this a quirk of Subaru or just the 05? Is there any sort of fix for this?

I seem to remember that the '05s have an electronic throttle pedal,
otherwise known as drive-by-wire.

Others have noted the same issue with said drive-by-wire.

I test-drove an '07 Outback and had the same impression.

I may be wrong but I thought drive by wire came in on the 06es (US WRX
anyway)

I found on my 06 that small changes in seat position/configuration was
critical on the throttle and the clutch. I still sometimes don't get the
timing perfect and over-rev a little on the throttle. And, as you said,
I am worse at synchornizing shifts at lower RPMs.

Still, perhaps some digging around at www.cars101.com and maybe over at
www.nasioc.com for known issues or recalls or TSBs is worthwhile.

i always thought it meant the flywheel is too heavy, lots of interia.

Now we know why japs were so reluctant to overbore the worldly 2.2l to
the us 2.5l
and did such a shitty job at it. There was no need. I'm ashamed
to have been among the morons who shrieked: gimme 2.5 sti when
everyone outside the us was getting 2.0 :-[
Yet there seems to be no shortage or morons who keep
preaching "there is no replacement for displacement"
and the rest of the world has to eventually endure the results
of that moronic unsubstantiated claim over time and the crap
gets unified and drifts downstream.
