Window Regulator

Hi all,

I'm about to replace the driver's side window regulator on my 95 lagacy and
have a two questions:

This is a power window. If the motor is fine, can I disconnect the motor
and get only the regulator? Dealers are quoting me the regulator with
motor. I've called the local yards but no one has them. Right now one of
the arms is bent so the window wont track correctly but the motor works
fine. I've also read that there is a nylon gear on the OEM motor but it
doesn't appear to be stripped.

Also, I'll use the existing sashes but the new regulator won't be lubed.
What lube should I use in the sashes?, will regular axle grease do or do I
need something specific for smooth window operation?

Thanks in advance for any replies,

It depends on the style of the motor/regulator. If it is a gear driven, and not
cable driven unit, you should be able to use the old motor. If it is a cable
drive type, this may or may not be possible. Some cable drive types actually do
have a gear in the motor that turns a spool with the cable. Those can be
changed like a regular gear drive motor. Others have the cabling feed directly
into the motor where it is kind of an integral part of the motor assembly. This
type usually has little rubber boots that the cables come out of as it enters
or leaves the motor. This style will require replacing the whole motor /
regulator assembly. I sell these to rebuilders, and they require an intact
regulator assembly for the integral cable drive style.

Use white lithium grease as lube.
