Source of failure ? running lights won't shut off.

All the lights work fine when the ignitiion is on, but with the
ignition off and key out, whether the light switch is in full on,
parking lights only or full off, the running lights all stay on. The
headlights go off as they should if I leave the switch in the "full
on" position. I pulled the 28 fuse as a temp solution, but what's the
problem. Is it a failure in the switch itself? Light switch or
ignition switch. And what's a fair price to replace? (I don't do
electric)

Should I tell him? Nah, it's someone else's turn.

Ok, I will.

RTFM.

Or look for a parking light rocker switch on the top of your steering
column.

Thanks. And I am embarassed since this happened to my car (while in
the hands of an a/c specialist) and it took a trip to my regular
mechanic to find the problem. So I did know about, but it has been
years since the prior occurrence

And I do think this is a DUMB location for this switch, only because
it has happened to me twice. Did they ever move it, or come up with
another way to achieve this?

It's pretty weird. I think some folks have re-wired the switch for other
functions. It comes up frequently and you are definitely not alone.

Yes, and it happened to me when I had my car washed. The idiots who wipe
down the interior moved the switch. When I got to the motel, my wife
asked me why the lights were on. I went through hell trying to turn them
off and was worried they might drain the battery. Finally after pushing
and pulling on everything in sight, I got them off. Dump ass design.

In my '71 XKE, every rocker switch is labled in white letters so you can
see them even at night and read what the switch is for.
