Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited which requires premium gas (93 octane). I've been told that I can run regular fuel as long as it doesn't ping and if it a P code to run a tank of high test. Is that information reliable. Actual detonation can't be heard but can destroy a piston or worse.

Any insight is much appreciated.

I drive a 2011 3.6 outback with over 200,000 Miles. I started using premium gas probably somewhere after 150,000 miles.
It has made a big difference in overall performance.

What mileage should a 2015 Outback 3.6r require shock absorber replacement?
I have a 2015 3.6r with 75K miles and get 22-23 MPG in town and 26-28 MPG on the road using regular to mid-octane fuel.
