Mountin an AMP in a '05 WRX

Hey all-

I just bought a nice amp to compliment the 12" pioneer I've had laying
around. I want to mount the amp but don't know where. I was thinking of
putting it in the trunk but don't want other odds and ends to crash into it
or have plastic bags suffocate it when I go to the super market. My
thoughts were create a makeshift mounting base out of some covered plywood
and mounting it from the top of the trunk, suspended under the 3rd
brake-light assembly. It looks like the roomiest, most out of the way
place. Plus, it provides good ventilation.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Would self-tapping sheet-metal
screws be ok if kept short enough? Is there a better place? I'd like to
use the spare wheel area, but think it'll retain way too much heat.

Also, how should I secure the speaker box so it doesn't slide around?
Velcro?

Thanks.

On my '95 Outback, I mounted my amp on the rear seatback. It's gotten a bit
chewed up over the years, but I kept it nice for a while by throwing a cloth
diaper on top of it when I moved something that might rub up against it.
You could also go under the front seats, but I was concerned about
water/snow getting down there.

I guess you're talking about the underside of the package shelf. That
sounds like an alright location to me, as CD changers are often mounted
there and those are admittedly more fragile (moving parts) than any amp.
The only thing is, amps are often designed to radiate their heat upward, and
if you've got the amp upside down, it might not cool properly. Of course,
mine is mounted with one set of fins pointing up, and the other down, and
I've never had mine shut off under exended use, even tho the bottom half
gets rather hot after a while. So anyway, unless you are thinking really
high-end here, you'd probably be alright.
