Hill Holder clutches

I'm going to replace the clutch in my 92 Legacy. It has a hill
holder clutch. I never replaced one of these and I was wondering
if they are any different than a regular clutch. Once I get in
there will I have the option of taking that out and making it
a conventional one? Is there anything associated with it that I
should be aware of or pay special attention to as it relates to
the hill holder mechanism. thanks

The hill holder is part of the brake master cylinder actuation and only
requires an initial adjustment. With a normal clutch replace you shouldn't
need to worry about it.

In my 2005, it did go out of adjustment just in the last few months and was causing the hill hold to come on as I went through the gears after a stop. It was dangerous to drive with the brakes coming on really hard....I had it disconnected because I could not find anyone who knew how to adjust it, and I do not trust the dealer. The place I took it to had a lot of experience with Subarus and they had never even heard of the hill hold. However, I asked them to find and disconnect the cable, they did, and the problem was solved. So it DOES require adjustment at some point in time. I have about 126k on the car with almost entirely city driving, which is a lot of use of the clutch (which is still original.)
