my current car is rotted and pretty soon ready to be a parts car, it's a 2001 grand prix with the old reliable 3800 V6. i have come to the determination that GM no longer manufactures engines of that quality, nor do they make cars (everything is trucks and SUVs now). i have heard wonderful things about subaru including my good friend that has an outback. for the first time in my life im considering biting the bullet and buying a brand new car, the used car market is pretty much shot now...... shortages and asking prices are ridiculous. i like that subaru is still producing the same engines they made years ago, and simply refining what already has been proven...... unlike GM (for example) that scrapped the reliable 3800 V6 and replaced it with sometimes terrible products.
so i am probably going to be buying a new subaru. i'm not a fan of CVT transmissions but i understand as i type this subaru still has several decent manual transmission offerings. im a professional truck driver ( i haul milk locally) and drive a 2022 kenworth with an 18 manual shift transmission on a daily basis. i have never owned a manual transmission car, however i feel it's safe to say my skills can easily be transferred from a 18 wheeler to a car. i am aware there are some differences (syncro vs. non syncro). i think a manual would be more fun to drive, and it avoids the potential of very expensive transmission replacement as the car ages, CVT transmissions are ungodly expensive to replace.
so i am considering an impreza base sedan, impreza 5 door, impeza 5 door sport, a crosstrek base or crosstrek premium. i would love a WRX but they are kind of pricey and im unsure how they would do in potentially deep snow. i have driven my old grand prix in snow 6" or more deep in the poorly plowed streets and it wasnt what i would call easy. it's more like getting to work and being surprised you even made it.
i would like a crosstrek but dont know if i need the extra off-road capabilities, i do kind of like the 6 speed offering over the 5 speed the impreza has. the extra cargo room the 5 door models offer would be nice. is the sport package on the impreza worth the extra money.
allot of choices basically within a similar price tag. it's not an easy decision, does anyone here have any suggestions to point me in the right direction? is the price premium worth it between for example the crosstrek base and premium packages?
