1996 Subaru outback legacy clutch went out took it to the shop they said 1200 parts and labor when I went to pick it up they said it was $1,973 I asked why he said they had to replace both CV axles I told them they axles and ball joints were just replaced 4 years ago and I didn't have any clicking or noise in the front end and they're charging 12 hours of Labor for something that the axles were taken out to begin with to do the clutch work I'm a 65 year old woman and I think they thought they could take advantage of me

That's awful that they did that, trying to take advantage of us senior citizens! Like you said, at 4 years old the CV axles should have been fine. I think it's cool though that you have a 1996 Legacy Outback with a standard transmission. You probably won't need to be concerned about head gaskets with the 2.2L engine.

Is the matter closed. If you did not authorize the work you should not have paid for it. Especially when it likely not needed. Where you planning to go from here?
