Check engine flashing.

i have a 2009 legacy. i was pulling out onto a main road and had to speed up, got it up to about 4.5 grand and my check engine came on. flashed 2 times then went solid. i’ve had this problem before but it flashed way more times than two and it was for a misfire and on a different occasion a blown radiator hose. it dosnt feel like it’s misfiring so i’m not sure what’s goin on here. im gonna hook it up to a code reader shortly but can’t right now. any ideas?
