Brake Light Adjustment

I have a 1996 Subaru Legacy. About a month ago the I turned the car off after driving it but the brake lights stayed on. For a few days I had to disconnect the battery whenever I did not use the car for awhile. I got a brake lights stayed on switch and installed it and it worked fine until yesterday when the brake lights stayed on when the car is off. Why is this happening? Is there something wrong in an adjustment? I read something about a bumper on the switch but I do not see a bumper. Attached are pictures of the switch with and without the brake being depressed

If you activate the switch manually, do the lights work as expected, on and off immediately w/the switch? Normally, it is just a dirty switch.
