Trying to figure out if the glass moonroof changes anything for roof load on a 2023 Ascent. The seller doesn't have the original sticker and I've been looking at a Touring trim with the panoramic roof, but I also found a Limited without it for less money. I know the Ascent roof rails are rated for 176 pounds dynamic and 700 pounds static . The manual doesn't call out any different capacities for the glass roof specifically, so it should apply across all trims whether it has the moonroof or not . That's also what the owner's manual says, 176 pounds in motion with the roof crossbars and gear . But I've also seen some forum discussions where people say they're worried about the glass breaking if they put a tent on it. Is that a real concern or am I overthinking it? Just trying to get this sorted before I decide which one to go with.

The 176 lb dynamic limit is for the roof rails and crossbars, not the glass itself, so it applies across all trims, moonroof or not. As long as you're using proper crossbars and staying under that weight, the glass is fine. The manual doesn't call out a different limit for the moonroof, so you're good. Are you planning on putting a roof top tent on it or just a cargo box?
